Dam Dam Dam Guadalupe Blanco River Authority crews prepare for an exercise on this dam along the Guadalupe River. The crews lowered a lifelike dummy into the spaces underneath the dam to simulate one of their workers with an emergency below. They then practiced bringing the "patient" up out of the hole with winches and some light rigging. The space underneath is created when they pump water out from underneath the folding dam to do maintenance and is accessable by ladder. New Braunfels Fire Fighters would respond to this dam in the event of an emergency. NBFD's Chief Herber, Battalion Chiefs Mabe and Zercher, DC Zercher, Capt Eliot, and Seguin FD Fire Marshal John Sheppard observed their exercise and provided them with some feedback and ideas. GBRA intends to make this an automatic mutual aid alarm for SFD, NBFD, and Geronimo VFD in the event help is needed. The GBRA crews did an excellent job and would most likely have the patient extricated by the time we would arrive. This dam is accessed by Canal St off S Hwy 46. Turn right after crossing the canal then through the gate that follows the canal. Click on the picture above to see more pictures of their exercise. |
