RETURN TO HOME PAGE New Braunfels Fire Department conducts testing usually sometime in the late summer or fall. We establish a list, and then hire from the list. The list is usually good for about a year, or until we conduct another recruitment test. The current list is posted on our website. New Braunfels hires only Texas certified EMTs and FFs. We send 3 or 4 of our EMTs to Paramedic school each year to the University of Texas Health Science Center. Watch the website for hiring/testing announcements. Basically, you just need the following: EMT requirements: At least 18 years old Complete high school or GED certificate (Texas Education Agency approved or out-of-state equivalent) Successful completion of an approved EMS training course (about 120 hours for the basic level) Submit EMS Personnel Certification Application and fee Pass National Registry exam Several learning institutions in the area conduct EMT Basic and or firefighter certification classes regularly.
